GroovyVic – Here’s my freedom of speech: This comic book is hella-gay. And that is saying a lot, since Spider-man is my all-time favorite superhero. Wolverine is #1a.

KY person – The guy deserves a chance, but if he fails, he deserves to be called out on it. Of course, if he succeeds, he deserves to be called out for that, too. The comic book thing is still idiotic, though.

Crankipants – Okay, you get a gold star for mentioning my favorite Spider-man villain of all time! (Electro is a close second.)

I think any person over the age of 15 talking about comic books as if they actually matter is kinda queer.

But, since you asked, I think it’s a little goofy but no big deal. It would be a HUGE deal if they made Obama the hero who saved the day.

It’s no different than when McCain was featured on an episode of Cheaters with Tommy Grand.

Marvel has always done these lame fill-in issues that break away from continuity. Back in the ’70s, Spidey hooked up with the cast of Saturday Night Live. This is just more of the same. This one is designed to generate a lot of publicity which it apparently has in order to get neophytes into the comic shops looking for the Obama comic.

Comics haven’t been the same since they published war and Western comics and they sold for a quarter. Now they sell for 3-4 bucks a pop and are mostly aimed at pasty 40-somethings who live with their parents.

What Spider-man doesn’t know is that the campaign and election of B.O. is the masterstroke plan of the nefarious Mysterio, special effects genius and master of manipulating the media! ‘Nuff said.

Looks like I’m going to have to boycott all popular culture for the nonce. I hope Obama has a successful administration, but my cynical self says that even if he has an EPIC FAIL, he’ll still be the messiah to our chattering classes.

Wyatt, sweetie, Obama fevah is everywhere, even the soaps. Just ask Mrs. Earp about the subtle mentions of “new administration,” “military industrial complex,” “I felt like Obama,” that have been occurring lately on GH.

Everything to do with the war in Iraq is BAD, conservatives are EVIL, Iraq war veterans are crazy, mad dogs.

Yeah, yeah, “freedom of speech.” I’m so sick of hearing that line thrown out every single time.

As a comics geek and political junkie, let me offer my $0.02 US.

1: McCain would have helped Spidey save the illegals.
Don’t forget that the sponsors of the ‘shamnesty’ were Russ Feingold and John McCain.

Before you ask, no, I didn’t believe a word McCain said when he claimed to have a change of heart.

2: It was DC Comics, not Marvel, who put out the alternate ‘history’ book about Superman being a commie.
