Here She Is
By Wyatt Earp | December 4, 2008
By popular demand, here are the first photos of Julia Elizabeth:
These were taken by my father-in-law yesterday. I took a few but left the camera with the missus in the hospital. D’oh!
Here is the latest. Julia is out of the NICU and in “gen pop” with the rest of the babies. The issue she was having was an internal thermostat problem. She was going from hot to cold too quickly, and that – they told me – is a common problem in the first few hours. The doc said she is good to go now, and should be released with mom sometime tomorrow. It’ll be great when they finally come home.
I took the boys to see her yesterday, and after some hemming and hawing, they changed their tune when they saw her. Erik kept jumping down waving to her in the nursery, and Kyle was thrilled that there is another redhead in the family. You can see her hair better in the bottom photo. The nurses got a kick out of Kevin, and all said he was “gorgeous.” Of course he is – he looks like me!
I got to hold Julia yesterday in the NICU for ten minutes. It was some of the best ten minutes of my life. And, like a big wuss, I cried when I held her for the first time. Don’t get me wrong: I am not playing favorites, and I love all of my children equally, but to see her sleeping, wrapped in a pink cloth, it really makes you happy.
Life is good.
Oh and before I forget: I wanted to thank everyone for the kind words, comments, and e-mails. They really mean a lot to me and my family. I’m sorry that I haven’t been responding to comments of late – and really sorry I missed this big news – but I am exhausted and trying to wrangle the three boys during the day. I’ll catch up when the missus comes home.

WOW!!! What a doll… Glad it’s you and not me … But I’d love to spoil her rotten, I don’t have grand daughters, but I have 2 rotten little grand sons… *snicker snicker*…
I have waiting for the pictures and I was delighted when I saw them when I came home from work. She is so precious. I am glad the boys are into being her big brother. What a lucky little girl.
To Shawn and Leanne,
Another red head. Nice work.
Congrats and best wishes,
love,
Aunt Noreen
A red headed ‘young lass’ in the family?….
You are TOAST in around 14-16 years…..(actually, you are ALREADY toast, but it will get worse)
Congrats on the addition to the family!
Trust me, the three boys are going to be VERY protective of their little sister.
What a beautiful little piece of loveliness!
You all are so blessed.
she’s adorable, and you’re sunk
)
daddy’s little girl is gonna have you wrapped so tight you won’t know which way is up.
congrats again
She must know you’re a police officer, she already puts her hands up when she sees you!
OK,..OK,..and she’s just darned CUTE!
Julia looks hella-pissed at the paparazzi attention already! I keep thinking about Mrs. Earp and the whole 8cm-and-no-epidural thing. GGGAAAHH! I remember it feeling like being run over by a dumptruck which then backed over you for good measure. And that was at 3 or 4 cm.
Give.That.Woman.Anything.She.Wants. Starting with a few dozen chocolate milkshakes, and a medal.
Oh, she is just adorable! My eyes filled with tears when you said that you cried when you held her for the first time. Save that post to put into her baby book.
Oh, the hot/cold thing is just a prelude to what she’ll be feeling in about 40 years! LOL
Wyatt, That was beautiful!! your daughter is gorgeous!! You are sooo toast!! No shame in crying, real men when they hold their children ought to feel that way!! You have gone up another notch in my opinion!!
Texas Fred – Thanks. Yeah, she’ll give me (more) gray hair eventually.
Momster – The missus has a few better ones in the hospital. I’ll post one this weekend.
Aunt Noreen – Thanks. See ya soon.
Deputy – Thank you. Yeah, it’s over for me. I know that!
GroovyVic – Not just them. No one gets near her . . . ever!
RT – Yeah. Lucky. She had the hiccups tonight, and she sounded like a mouse. Kevin? He sounded like a T-Rex.
E.L. – It took everything I had to not pick her up tonight. She was sleeping.
Trek – Kevin slept like that, too. It’s a riot.
Monica – I’ll brag about her Christmas present after the 25th. Believe me, it’s hella-awesome!
W.M. – Thanks. I welled up again today. I think it’s because she’s so tiny.
Sssteve – Don’t go by me. I cry when the Pittsburgh Penguins lose.
She is a Doll. Thank Heaven for Little Girls.
I have two daughters.
Congratulations! The baby is adorable. Reminds me of when I saw my nephew for the first time.
Cuddle the first 6 months. those days will be come before you want them to.

I’ll have a cigar this weekend in her honor. God bless.

Again, congratulations.
Now get some sleep. lol
She’s a keeper!
Congratulations Wyatt.
What a sweetie pie! I have a granddaughter who’s three months old. They are the most precious little things on earth.
She is one lucky little girl.
I too wept when I first held each of my children for the first time. Tears of joy are pretty amazing.
My son was born on the evening shift, the nurses gave me 1+ hours to “get to know him”.
My daughter was born at the start of day shift. After two or three minutes a nurse told me I needed to put my daughter down and exit the nursery, hippa reasons.
She later apologized I’m certain at the behest of whomever gave her the “come to Jesus” talk.
Congrats. Babies rule.
Jason
Awwwwwwwwwww! Such a sweetie!
What a doll!
You know, I’ve got a son …
A little Doll.

As for no painkillers- well, I never had any, and I’m still angry about it. Why do you think I swear so much?
Enjoy every minute!
