SYLG’s Post-Election Wrap-Up

By Wyatt Earp | November 5, 2008

Yeah, that about covers it.

Okay, let’s get down to brass tacks here. Before people come on and say, “I told you so,” save your breath: I called this thing for Obama weeks ago. Check the comments if you don’t believe me. I knew there were far too many people who would go with the “feel good” story, anyway. Of course, the political ad catch-phrase stating that “Barack Obama just has a power to bring people together” is just not correct. The country is still pretty evenly divided: Check the election returns. What Obama did do – and do expertly, in my opinion – was get people off their arses and out to the polls. Good show!

I’d also like to address the people (including Obama) who said that this election was not about race. May I please direct you to the local detox clinic? I don’t have numbers in front of me, but I’ll wager that most African-Americans happily voted for the most liberal senator in America. Think they did that because they all agreed with his policies? Hardly. They voted for Obama because he’s black. And that’s fine. Let’s admit it and move on.

Personally, I prefer to see all of the good that is coming out of this. To wit:

Bye-Bye Clintons! A Barack Obama administration means the virtual death of the “President Hillary Clinton” title. It’s a nice feeling. And while Obama will probably bend over and appoint The Hill-dabeast to the SCOTUS, I can live with that more than I can live with a Clinton administration. See ya later, Clintons! Don’t come back.

The Balance Of Power Shifts. The Democrats have a majority in both Houses and will have a Democrat President on January 20th. Sweet! Why is this sweet? Two reasons. First, we will have a front row seat to at least four years of one-party rule. Second, the Democrats will have no one to blame if/when the country goes in the dumper during those four years. Republicans can sit back and watch the fireworks.

The Republican Party Is In Shambles. I love this one, which is why I saved it for last. The Republican Party has become a shell of its former self. Instead of appealing to its conservative base (me), it has squandered its time in power, and spent the last eight years “reaching across the aisle.” How did that work out for you, GOP? Not too good. If you learn nothing from this defeat – and I believe you will learn nothing – you should realize that true conservatives will get you back into the seat of power. If I were you, I would work on that like yesterday, before someone decides to create a sorely-needed third party. A Conservative Party.

Some of my regular readers probably wanted to see me trash Obama, call him a Nazi, a scumbag socialist, or pull a Randal Graves and say, “He’s not my President!” Sorry to disappoint. I don’t agree with any of the man’s policies, but I’ll give him a chance. Every President deserves that courtesy, even if the libtards at Daily Kos never gave that to George W. Bush.

If you want to trash the man, I’d appreciate it if you did it somewhere else. Why give the Kos Kidz ammunition here? If you are looking to destroy Obama, I’d much rather you didn’t say anything at all. I don’t want SYLG to degenerate into that type of blog.

I now open the comments to those of you who want to gloat and/or cry. Get it in, kids, because this is probably the last time I’ll be talking about Election ’08. Know now that any over-the-top vulgarity or out of hand comments will be deleted. I’m not in the mood for shenanigans today. After 18 months, I’m pretty sick of politics.

No matter who wins, we loose. Could be worse I suppose. I wish the new President good health and an uneventful term of office.

I totally and utterly agree with you. Just as successful as the dems were, it is for a reason: the republicans lost their identity in trying to appease people that want nothing to do with them.

This is the dems to frak up. If they do, I can sit and smile, because I did not vote for any of them (and there is one I vote for quite often).

We can philosophize all we want, but people make emotional decisions when they vote. Maybe the conservatives need to begin to look for people who will inspire others.

I’m hoping that a lot of positives come out of this for our country. It is about our country. I’ll be praying for our leaders and that blessings come our way, not to mention that we get our strength back.

    I refuse to be upset.

Make that eight years. Dems will see to that. Anybody who thinks that in four years, voters will elect Republican saviors — I’ve seen that one for months now — are on some seriously bad drugs.

Speaking of bad drugs, I went through my blogroll and put the ones that are off the deep end on a greylist. Steel yourselves. Every time we lose an election, or own nutjobs come out. Ready for eight more years of eeeeeeevil black UN helicopters and other juicy nutjob conspiracy theories?

I welcome our new Stalinist overlords!

Well….I just realized that, in January, Barry O! becomes my husband’s Commander-in-Chief.

    Should I be worried?

But I agree with all previous commentors, the GOP has really been screwing the pooch.

Those Dems had better not take away my talk radio, though.

Obama’s President-elect and the world hasn’t ended yet; amazing! Everyone still has their guns; nobody came door to door and tool them, right? Did the tanks come rumbling through the city streets in the dark hours of the morning? Good, just checking that communism/socialism/facism/nazism isn’t in full swing yet.

“You lost today kid, but that doesn’t mean you have to like it.”

The Republicans need to understand why they lost yesterday. They had zero control of one of the main reasons: Bush. Unfortunately for yuse, he and McCain were too tightly linked (whether it was true or not). Second, McCain changed too much in the past year, probably forced by his party to do so. And third, Palin. She probably lost more votes than she gained; and unfortunately it really hurt McCain’s cred when “he” picked her.

and if Obama runs the country the same way Bush did after 6, 7, or 8 years, feel free to say he’s not your president.

    WINNER, winner, chicken dinner!

He is our new president-elect. I don’t like it, but there is nothing I can do about it. I believe this country is going to go from bad to worse.

I listened to his acceptance speech last night and can see how he pulled so many people in. He is a very smooth talker. And he’s already working for a second term.

As for the whole coming for guns last night comment, he is not president yet. Wait until January. He does not have a very good record when it comes to 2AM rights.

He is also for live birth abortions. (Basically a botched abortion where the baby is still alive outside the womb and separate from the mom. It is left to die. No life-saving measures allowed.)

He wants national healthcare. If you want an example of gov’t run healthcare, go visit the VA.

He came out and said people like me are “bitter” and “clinging to our guns and Bibles.” Nice of him, huh?

But as already been states, he is the president-elect and I will give him the courtesy due the position.

Don’t kid yourself. They’ll say it’s because they spent four years “cleaning up the GOP’s mess” and everyone will buy that excuse. “Just give us one (or two, or three) more term(s) and you’ll see what we can REALLY do!”

    What a great day!

Today is November 5th and I now have free health care, a bigger paycheck, global warming has ceased and Russia’s Putin has offered to come to my home and rub my belly each night after I eat dinner!

All joking aside, I agree that I can respect the office if not the man occupying it.

My main concern is that when the repugs are in office, they piss on the 1st and the 4th Amendments and then we throw the bums out and throw different bums in who then proceed to piss on the 1st and the 2nd.

What do we get by repeating this pattern?

A constant uninterrupted urine stream on the COTUS.

It’s sad when you start hoping for gridlock in hopes of slowing the usurpation.

I agree .. lets sit back and watch the fireworks but I hope to God he doesnt cripple this country and more than it is already.

    Muslim – No
According to Traditional Muslim law he is a Muslim, but he renounced that affiliation a long time ago and chose instead to align himself with a church whose values stem from “Black liberation Theology”

    Socialist- Yes – from wikipedia
Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly, although there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how, and to what extent this could be achieved.[1]

    Radical – Yes
While Obama was in the Senate he had the most liberal voting record in the body, and given the current make up of the Senate – that is quite a feat.

    Terrorist -No – Ridiculous

He is also soon to be President, and we should all hope that as President his actions his actions will be the best for this country.
