Not Exactly Humanity’s Finest Hour
By Wyatt Earp | November 21, 2008

Pack it in, folks. Humanity has finally crossed the line. We’re toast.
MIAMI – A South Florida college student killed himself by overdosing on drugs in front of a live online audience as some computer users egged him on, some debated his method, and others tried to talk him out of it.
Abraham Biggs, 19, of Pembroke Pines, died Wednesday at his home from a toxic combination of opiates and benzodiazepine, a drug used to treat insomnia and depression, said Wendy Crane, an investigator with the Broward County medical examiner’s office.
Authorities say the Broward Community College student is not the first person to commit suicide with a webcam rolling.
It’s unclear how many people were watching through the Web site bodybuilding.com. Someone finally notified a site moderator, who pinpointed Biggs’ location and called police, but they arrived too late to save him, Crane said.
Biggs, who used the screen name “CandyJunkie” on the bodybuilding Web site, started blogging about plans to kill himself 12 hours before he was found lying dead on his bed. He posted a link from bodybuilding.com to Justin.tv, a site that allows users to broadcast live videos from their webcams. (H/T – Drudge)
What is there to even say to this? I feel sorry for the teen, terrible for his family, and sick for the country. Something is seriously wrong with this planet when this sort of thing can happen, folks. Seriously wrong.

I would like to know how many kids urged him NOT to kill himself. Any of our hope and changy college students willing to try and save this kids life?

Sad. It reminds me of this song.

Mare – I have to think someone tried to dissuade him. I have to think that, or else all is lost.
DL474 – Yeah. A simply terrible story.

When what I value – willing to stay alive and care for to the best of my ability – is mocked by current culture and media then I am not surprised that young person had nothing to live for except the notice of how stupidly he died.
But we don’t teach honor, responsibility and duty anymore – or that culture on the television doesn’t, I know where it is taught but it is almost a secret place and television is never really invited in there.

Poor kid. I’d be willing to bet that there were some who begged him not to kill himself. But with the media more bloodthirsty than a Roman crowd at the gladiator bouts, we won’t know.

Earl – Very well said. Responsibility is a thing of the past in America. We’ll be a worse off country for it.
Ky person – And the worst part is that this kid thought he didn’t have anywhere to go or anyone to talk to.
