Goalkeeper Scores First Goal In MLS History
By Wyatt Earp | October 21, 2008
Oh, and he does it in his first game. Unbelievable! The goalkeeper, Danny Cepero, also has a local connection: he played soccer at the University of Pennsylvania.
So, what does he do for an encore?
Thrust into the starting lineup without any MLS experience, not only did Danny Cepero hold his own Saturday night, he became the first goalkeeper in the league’s 13-year history to score a goal.
And he accomplished the feat in the 83rd minute of the Red Bulls’ crucial 3-1 victory over the Columbus Crew at Giants Stadium.
“That’s crazy to say the least,” said the 23-year-old from Baldwin, L.I. “It’s incredible. It’s one of those random stats that I guess I can always look up and say, ‘Hey, there I am.’ ” (H/T – The New York Daily News)
Here is the amazing video:
Damn. Nice shot, kid.

Feh. Ron Hextall did it years ago, and while playing a real sport.

DPP – Agreed. My son watched it about a dozen times.
Trek – Can’t knock soccer here. My kids play it . . . well.
