Stewardess, Is There A Movie On This Crash?
By Wyatt Earp | July 12, 2008

Yeah, and apparently, it’s Airport ’77!
NEW YORK (CNN) — An incident involving two airborne passenger jets on Friday has raised questions of a second possible near collision within a week at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Delta Flight 123, a Boeing 757, missed a landing approach and had to “go around,” the path of Comair Flight 1520, which was taking off on a perpendicular runway, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown.
Brown said the two aircraft were more than a half mile away from each other and weren’t at the same altitude. Air traffic controllers safely separated the two aircraft, she said.
National Air Traffic Controllers Association JFK Tower Facility representative Barrett Byrnes, however, said the two planes came within 600 feet of each other. (H/T – CNN)
Okay, I’m no expert, but 600 feet away is a little close in my book. Actually, it usually means a good pants-wetting for yours truly. Um, hello, FAA? Maybe this is the type of kink you folks should be working out. You know, because people – especially in New York – get antsy when jetliners almost crash!!!
I’m just sayin’.

Heebie jeebies!
RT – Like I already don’t despise flying as it is.
Just remember a near miss is a collision.
Wow, I was googling “loser blogs” and the first hit was Wyatt Earp!
Jeffro – Does that follow when you almost walk into a good looking woman as well?
TW – The first hit? Whoo hoo! I’m number one! I’m number one!
Hey……where are the Cheezy Poofs?
Sage – Hold on, I think the stewardess is bring them around.
How can I change my avatar?
TW – Most use one from gravatar.com. You can download one you like, and just sign in with the name/e-mail addy you use there.
Once I was on a plane trying to land at O’Hare. Three times the pilot tried and failed to put the plane down, each time circling around at the last minute. Everyone on board was crying or praying or throwing up. We ended up going to Milwaukee. What a nightmare.
nice look wyatt, but I will miss seeing sam shepherds gorgeous mug with I come and visit..
According to the FAA regulations I remember from my private pilot’s class, any time jetliners of that size are within one MILE of each other, it counts as a near miss.
Don’t take it as doctrine, because it’s a fuzzy memory from a class I took over 12 years ago, and I’ve had a brain injury since then. (G) That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
MikeB – I would be running up and down the aisles yelling, “Let me off, let me off, let me off!”
TBB – Thanks, dear. I’ll try to accommodate you in the near future.
Phillip – Yeah, a mile away would be enough for me to hit the “Eject” button.
So, anyone else think it’s time for massive investment in high speed (think Japan) rail?
I’m pretty sure the survivability rate of plane crashes to rail crashes is vastly different. Plus, on a train you’re not usually controlled crashing into the ground at 150mph or falling out of the sky from 35k feet at terminal velocity.
Ryan – I would love that! So would the kids: they’re big train fans. Be nice to see our friends in Tucson via rail.
The future of air travel?
