Return Of The Rink Rat
By Wyatt Earp | July 15, 2008

Tonight was my son Kyle’s first street hockey game of the season. He’s playing at the neighborhood rec center, and after his first two practices, he informed me that he wanted to play goaltender. He’s never played it before this year, but really seems to love it.
There is another player on the team who is the goalie, so Kyle started the game at right wing – Dad’s position. Here he is taking a shot during warm-ups.
His team built a steady lead, and Kyle’s coach allowed him to suit up for goal during the final period. He’s young and raw, but he made some decent saves. Here’s one exchange.
Unfortunately, Kyle couldn’t save everything in the third period . . .
Oh well, no biggie. His team won the game by a score of 5-1.

Coolio! Good for him!
BZ
Good for Kyle! He’s a plucky guy. It can’t be easy trying to play goal with all of that equipment.
He’s got a good, strong shot.
He looks like Iron Man in all that equipment! Gotta love a cute man in “uniform”!
BZ – Yeah, it’s his favorite sport – along with lacrosse and soccer.
RT – He looks like happy Gilmore with the run toward the ball, but he has decent power. Lacrosse helped him immensely, too. Every time the ball went in the corner – when he was playing defense – he tried to muscle the other kids out of the way.
Deanna – He wants brand new goalie equipment now. Luckily, I think Badger has some semi-used equipment he can give me.
I will dig out what I have. Poor kid, playing goalie with bare arms. CMON DAD!
Kyle’s glove looks much better the Badger’s last glove!!!
So basically he smoked the other goalie. Way to go Lil Wyatt!
The Badger – Yeah, I suck at this parenting stuff.
Randal – Much, much better! And Kyle’s shorts are in better condition than Badger’s blue goalie pants!
Doghouse – Well, he helped. He is still angry about letting in the one goal, though.
Glad to see you’re both right wingers and not left wingers.
I love the blue pants. Let it go.
My boy is 4 and a half. Since we live in Italy, he’s a soccer maniac – can’t get enough. Your Kyle looks great out there.
Mike47 – Well crafted. I’m left-handed, so I feel better on the right wing. Kyle likes playing forward, and I don’t think he cares where.
Badger – They’re atrocious. You can almost see your ass through the rips and holes.
MikeB – Thanks. Kyle loves soccer, but it takes a back seat to hockey.
