Tech Notes
By Jim | June 7, 2008
Jim here. SYLG Tech guru, such as that is. I just wanted to jump in and tell you about some of the features here at Wyatt’s new WordPress powered digs.
- One of the reasons I wanted to get Wyatt set up on his own domain is because the peculiar filters used where I work block all blogspot sites. I’m sure that may be the case for many others as well. That problem has been eliminated!
- You can add SYLG to your feed reader now. That link is also in the right sidebar.
- You may have noticed the images by some comments. The latest version of WordPress uses Gravatars automatically. It’s easy to get one of your own. Just go to Gravatar.com and sign up using the same email you use to comment here. The rest will happen all by itself.
- One of the great things about WordPress is the ability to add plugins to increase the functionality of your site even further. There are several in place here including the Polls, Users Online, Subscribe to Comments, and the Comment Quick Tags for formating. A few others are used behind the scenes to make posting easier. And let’s face it, making posting easier makes Wyatt a better writer.
- Speaking of making Wyatt a better writer, he has actually posted something on the About page. Personally, I’m afraid to look. Those of you who have had your shots, feel free.
If you haven’t told your friends about the move yet, well what else do you have to do on a Saturday afternoon.

Thanks again, Jim. As usual, you rock! (And remember to visit Jim’s site and read his bloggy goodness!)
Nice job Jim! Interestingly enough, I had never signed up for Gravatar, but yet my email was on it…
I must go adjust my blogroll to the new url.
I am gravatar! HA!
Great job, Jim! You might have another customer (at least someone with questions) when fall rolls around.
Well, this Saturday afternoon, we are still dealing with being declared a disaster zone after a reverse 911 call woke us up this morning saying we are under a state of emergency and to get to high ground due to flash flooding. (After being told to go in the basement due to tornadoes.)
Indiana. Gotta love it.
Back to my ark building.
Jim, I may just have to enlist your services….
Wyatt – You’re more than welcome.
Old NFO – Hey, as long as it works.
DL474 – Good Idea
RT – Looking good. Ask away.
Kim – OK. You have an excuse. Seriously, I hope everything is all right. Don’t forget to use plenty of pitch on the gopher wood.
Vic – let me know how I can help.
Jim – Um, you’re my personal blog guru, remember? Tell RT and GroovyVic you’ll help them out . . . if the price is right!
You’re right. . . I didn’t mention price. $-)
We ran out of wood for the ark, so we are staying put. Personally, we are doing ok, but most of our state has been declared a disaster zone. Friends have been evacuated and DNR is borrowing boats left and right to evacuate. The National Guard has been called out. Bridges have collapsed. Roads have sunk, washed away, or just plain broken up. Levees have burst.
Hoof rot can be treated (the biggest danger to our goats.) Roads can be rebuilt. Memories live in the heart. Lives can not be replaced. Now if the idiots that want to release the dams north of us could remember that….
And more storms are coming.
